Proj 1: Wyckoff

Wyckoff Beach Subtidal Sediment Cleanup; Eagle Harbor, WA: 2023

MSA was subcontracted by Jacobs Engineering to conduct eelgrass delineations and macroalgae assessments in the vicinity of the Wyckoff/Eagle Harbor Superfund Site. MSA staff prepared the Eelgrass & Macroalgae Delineation Work Plan prior to conducting a large-scale baseline eelgrass survey that was completed in the summer of 2023. Intertidal surveys and SCUBA surveys were used to delineate and assess eelgrass density counts and qualitative measurements of macroalgae in specified impact areas and adjacently located reference areas. Subsequently, staff transcribed data into GIS, mapped final products, and summarized baseline findings in a report for the Environmental Protection Agency, Jacobs Engineering, and contractors. The objective was to determine spatial coverage of existing submerged aquatic vegetation within the project area to inform future plans for eelgrass transplant work as part of a pilot study that the EPA is looking to implement at this superfund site.
