Education & Certifications
Griffin grew up on Marrowstone Island in the Puget Sound. He graduated from the University of Washington in 2017 with a B.Sc. in Aquatic & Fishery Sciences with honors and minors in Marine Biology, Oceanography and Art History. His marine interests have revolved around local Salish Sea marine ecology. He has worked for Sound Vessels Inc. since 2012 on a long-term sea grass monitoring project for the DNR. Last summer he led the bull kelp monitoring project for the Clallam County MRC and his undergraduate research at the Friday Harbor Laboratories examined the nutritional value of sea urchin waste and the implications for benthic food webs. His interest in coral systems took him to the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology where he researched the effects of ocean acidification and warming on the physiology of corals and tolerance of resilient corals offspring. He is SDI Rescue, TDI Nitrox and AAUS scientific dive certified as well as a USCG licensed merchant marine.
