Proj 9: Port of Silverdale

Port of Silverdale Boat Ramp Maintenance Dredge & Moorage Facility Relocation Project; Silverdale, WA: 2019 – Present

The Port of Silverdale’s existing boat ramp occasionally requires maintenance dredging to allow vessels to navigate during low tide events. The Port’s moorage facility was originally slated for a maintenance dredge, as well. However, when it became clear that this costly dredge work would be needed on an ongoing basis, MSA used creativity to provide a less impactful solution. Through constant communication with the Port and the permitting agencies, the project was split into two phases: Phase I involves the boat ramp dredging, and Phase II encompasses the moorage push-out farther seaward so a greatly reduced dredge footprint is required in the future. MSA is the lead project manager for this multiple-component dredging project. Deliverables will include writing a BE report and Alternatives Analysis; developing a Water Quality Monitoring Plan and a Sediment Analysis Plan (SAP) for the dredging; conducting SCUBA habitat surveys of the dredge area; and overseeing vibratory core sampling, sample compositing for analysis, and post chemical analysis reporting. MSA is assisting in the coordination of engineering and the site meetings with the review agencies, as well as handling all environmental permitting for the County, State, and Federal applications (Kitsap County, DNR, WDFW, ACOE, NMFS). Coastal Geologic Services (CGS) and Research Support Services were subcontracted to provide bathymetric dredge profiles and dredge planning. Post permit receipt, MSA will work with the Port to provide dredge planning and contractor selection through the final stages.
